"De-Pict Dunkeld" was a project I made in collaboration with the Dunkeld Archives.
The client's main aims for this project were to increase interest in the Archives among the general public. The brief was to create a game with a broad user appeal that was entertaining, educational, and made use of the Archive's historical resources.
Working as the game and level designer in a team of five, it was my responsibility to actualise the client's brief.
Prototyping
Footage of an early prototype I created to demonstrate the core gameplay to the client. We pitched a casual puzzle game with collect-a-thon elements where the player explores miniature dioramas of historical locations in Dunkeld.
We were keen to enhance the toy-like aspect of the game to emphasise its broad appeal. Using UE5's blueprints, I prototyped the objects within the diorama to provide a high level of feedback - or "Juice" - upon player interaction.
This feedback system combined animation principles with sound and colour changes to produce a satisfying interaction for the player.
The game featured a variety of mini-games that the player could discover as they explored the diorama. These mini-games provided a great deal of variety to the gameplay & were designed to be easily played & understood by a broad audience. I was responsible for the blueprint scripting and implementation of each of these mini-games.
